Chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (or encephalopathy)
Chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (or encephalopathy): diagnosis and management of CFS/ME in adults and children
Summary
This guideline is about the care of people with chronic fatigue syndrome, which is also called myalgic encephalomyelitis (or encephalopathy), in the NHS in England and Wales. Throughout this booklet we refer to the condition as CFS/ME for short. The booklet explains guidance (advice) from NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence). It is written for people with CFS/ME, and parents or carers of people with the condition. It may also be useful for other family members or for anyone with an interest in CFS/ME.
The guideline aims to help you understand the care and treatment options that should be available in the NHS.

NICE clinical guidelines are recommendations about the treatment and care of people with specific diseases and conditions in the NHS in England and Wales
This guidance represents the view of the Institute, which was arrived at after careful consideration of the evidence available. Healthcare professionals are expected to take it fully into account when exercising their clinical judgement. The guidance does not, however, override the individual responsibility of healthcare professionals to make decisions appropriate to the circumstances of the individual patient, in consultation with the patient and/or guardian or carer and informed by the summary of product characteristics of any drugs they are considering.

La linee guida del NICE sono state rigettate dalla The ME Association e dalla ME Research UK, quaet'ultima una "Charity" con sede sociale a Perth che ha un forte approccio biologico alle problematiche connesse con il gruppo di sindromi che nel Regno Unito vengono comunenemente, collettivamente (ed incorrettamente) denominate CFS/ME.
